Miguel G. Chacon, Jr.
Principal
Miguel G. Chacón, Jr. is the proud principal of W. B. Travis Elementary. He works collaboratively with the dedicated parents, students, and staff to deepen the school’s character, ensure a rigorous academic foundation for all students, and instill a sense of school pride and spirit in the community and school. With over twenty years of experience in education, Mr. Chacón taught 7th and 8th grade Language Arts and was a counselor at both Mercedes Jr. High School and Mercedes High School. From 2005 to 2008, Mr. Chacón was a program specialist for the Texas Migrant Interstate Program, a special project for the Texas Education Agency. Through TMIP, Mr. Chacón traveled throughout the United States presenting on various migrant topics at state and national migrant conferences. Upon his return to Mercedes ISD, Mr. Chacón lead the migrant department. In 2009, Mr. Chacón became part of the administrative team at W. B. Travis as assistant principal and was named principal in 2012. Mr. Chacón holds a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Political Science and a Master of Education in Counseling and Guidance, both from The University of Texas Pan American. Mr. Chacón obtained principal certification through the Region One Educational Service Center in 2009. ​
